Voltron: Legendary Defender - 6 Things You Need To Know About Season 3

3. ...Which Means The Team Can't Form Voltron

As Hunk flatly states in the beginning of the trailer, "We can't form Voltron anymore." Without a pilot at the helm of all five Lions, there's no way for the team to assemble the mighty Voltron. It's not likely this will be a hindrance for the entire season, however, as we get a brief glimpse of the Black Lion in action. Though, whether it's Shiro behind the controls or new addition to the team isn't clear. What we do know is that only a natural-born leader can pilot the Black Lion, and they've got to stay cool under pressure. This limits the pool of suitable candidates significantly.

Keith is the obvious choice - he's the most skilled in combat, and Shiro asked him to lead the Voltron Force should he perish in battle. Unfortunately, Keith is still too hotheaded to lead the team effectively, and his impulsiveness would put the team in danger. Furthermore, in the trailer, he's still wearing his Red Lion gear, casting doubt on whether he's ready to step into the role.

Allura is another possibility. She's already assumed the mantle of leader, and, while inexperienced, has the temperament necessary to bring the team together. Though she piloted the Blue Lion in the original series, with the seat of the Black Lion up for grabs she'd be able to exact her revenge on the Galra Empire in a more personal fashion.
