The Walking Dead: 11 Actors In Surprising Early Roles
10. Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (Bob Stookey) Gangs Of New York
Bob is somewhat of an enigma within the group: as the doctor he is ostensible one of the most important people to have around in a zombie apocalypse, and he's not any doctor either, he's an army doctor well-versed in administering medical support in times of great pressure. However, Bob has never really lived up to his pre-fall-of-humanity occupation. His burning desire to acquire all of Georgia's remaining alcohol has landed the group in dire straights on more than one occasion. Before being the groups medic whose alcoholism always seems to cost everyone dearly, Lawrence Gilliard Jr. did a turn for a man widely believed to be one of the finest film directors of all time, Martin Scorsese, in Gangs of New York. Gilliard Jr. plays Jimmy Spoils friend of Leonardo DiCaprios character Amsterdam whose presence in the Catholic Church the violently racist McGloin (Gary Lewis) objects to on account of his African-American heritage. This results in Bill "The Butcher" Cutting and his gang of miscreants marching upon the church, forcing the Irish to drive them back. Though only a small role, Gilliard Jr. still rubbed shoulders with Holywood heavyweights like Leo, Daniel Day-Lewis and Liam Neeson and was pivotal in triggering one of the films important conflicts. True to form Bob (or Lawrence) is once again causing conflict, though it is hardly fair to blame him for the trouble caused in Gangs of New York Gilliard Jr. also has a brief role in the rather less decorated film The Waterboy, acting as an aspiring American footballer alongside Adam Sandler.
