The Walking Dead: 11 Actors In Surprising Early Roles
7. Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale Horvath) The Green Mile
One of the original elders of the group, Dale always wanted the best thing for everyone and was forever attempting to maintain the peace. All Walking Dead fans fondly remember Dale, that iconic fisherman's hat perched on his head, with his trusty RV that acted as the nucleus around which the original Rick-less group formed, though we had to bid farewell to gentle Dale in the middle of season two after a loose walker which Carl had previously been mithering came to the camp and savaged him. Dale was then rather insensitively given the T-Dog treatment as his role as the group's father-figure was promptly replaced with Hershel. Jeffrey DeMunn who plays Dale has had several roles in some notable films such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Citizen X and The Majestic. DeMunn also had a role as Harry Terwilliger, one of the prison guards acting alongside Barry Pepper the amazing sniper in Saving Private Ryan in the critically acclaimed The Green Mile. Much like the group's original elder, Harry Terwilliger is good-hearted though his role as a guard obviously requires him to be more assertive than the laid-back Dale. It might be hard to spot because the characters look so different minus the aforementioned hat and beard, but thats Dale.
