The Walking Dead: 4 Things "Consumed" Got Right (And 6 It Didn't)
3. Back To Beth
One of the strengths of Slabtown is that it was so unexpected: Beth had been missing since the end of The Walking Dead's fourth season, with nary a mention of her since. Which, to be fair, is because there was a city full of cannibals for the characters to contend with first. The sudden shift to Beth's new life in the hospital was surprising, interesting, and clearly hinting at something big to come later in this season. Little did audiences know that they'd be followed up on so quickly, since the search for her makes up the most of Consumed. Not that it's a totally Beth-centric episode. It's obvious that's what Carol and Daryl's (snort, sorry) mission is throughout this week's hour, but it's not like they spend the whole time banging on about it. Only a little bit of that time. The rest if a pretty methodical, fairly quiet episode that's short on dialogue, but big on character moments and contextual clues as to their search (like the van with the big white crosses on the back - everybody knew what they were without Daryl having to explain). It's nice that, even when the characters break away from each other, there's still some sense of continuity.
