The Walking Dead: 4 Things "Consumed" Got Right (And 6 It Didn't)
5. The Walkers Are Nuisances
Not that the walkers are anything approaching a credible threat these days. This has been a problem all season (and could risk sinking the show entirely), as the group of survivors have shown themselves to be so competent at taking down the undead that it seems as easy and absent-minded as swatting at flies. It doesn't even seem risky for Carol and Daryl to walk through a city full of the things in this episode, and that's beginning to be something of a problem. It's cool from a development standpoint - and it just makes sense - that these lot would be pretty adept at killing zombies by this point. But making them an afterthought means they're very rarely scary, or seem like a genuine threat. The episode opens with Carol sobbing in her car and telling a ravenous walker to go away and leave her alone, like it was her mom bothering her when she just needed some alone time. That's not the way you speak to something that could kill you.
