The Walking Dead: 4 Things "Consumed" Got Right (And 6 It Didn't)
3. Seriously, Cool It With The Flashbacks
Whilst Consumed carries on a lot of the cool trends of this season, it sadly also indulges in some of the more worrying things this new Walking Dead has to offer. The one it leans the most heavily on is the Lost-style flashbacks in order to deliver character moments - although thankfully, this week, they don't do the cheesy sepia tone and blurred edges so that you know these are memories, not things happening right now. Although to be honest that might've helped, because the flashbacks got a little confusing here. Again they were used to highlight the tragic past of Carol who, to be fair, has had it more tough than anyone else on the show. Escaping an abusive relationship, she wound up in a zombie apocalypse, then her daughter went missing and got turned into a walker. Her sad history is made clear from Melissa McBride's performance, the subtle (or less-than-subtle) moments like the books she steals and moments she shares with Daryl. No need to cut back and forth to her burning bodies in the prison or whatever that was supposed to highlight.
