4. He Can Bring The Group Together Or Tear Them Apart
There has and always will be conflict within the group in The Walking Dead, or else there would be no drama. Carol has been ousted for her indifference about the murders of Karen and David, citing the 'greater good' and reminding Rick of The Governor, spurring him to act. Any other conflicts of interest will soon have to be put to one side, as they are going to need to band together to face this new threat from a more dangerous Governor than they faced before. This time he really has nothing to lose he's out by himself and doesn't have a community to temper his rage, nor hold him back. This being said, The Governor has a silver tongue, as evidenced by his ability to twist Andrea to his will for most of last season and driving a wedge between Maggie and Glen. He divided opinion and ensured some very tough calls had to be made by Rick and the others. He cannot take the prison by force, which suggests that he will have to employ some emotional warfare as well as violence. This will be the true test of the group this season, seeing if they are able to stand up to manipulation and deceit to band together. The most enjoyable parts of The Walking Dead see the group working together successfully, whether it's out on a supply run or even repelling attacks against their fortified home. It's important that this remains the case, because a more literal battle of good vs. evil is on the cards with the Governor's re-introduction.
