Daryl may very well be one of the most universally loved characters in recent television history, thanks to his brutal-with-a-touch-of-softness attitude, as well as a preference for using a chopper and a crossbow. And, from what I understand, he's regarded as being a rather tasty looking chap. So he's more or less the rebel without a cause of The Walking Dead. However, opinion has begun to change slightly with Daryl, as he is largely being used for the same purposes on every occasion: he's the hunter and the scout, and he sometimes turns up when things get heated to do something that looks pretty cool. Since Merle's death in the previous season, what is it exactly that Daryl has done which is particularly outstanding of a character that would be a genuinely missed presence in the show? Whilst acknowledging that he was once arguably the highlight of the series, and the favourite character of a great deal of fans, it could easily be argued that Daryl is being gradually phased out of the limelight, which in Walking Dead fashion would tend to suggest that a dramatic comeback is to be made before a tragic death. The man who was once expected to save the day no matter what and look broodingly beautiful whilst doing so has been replaced by a solemn and nearly silent shadow, one who would appear to be inching steadily towards his death. If the current season has one more huge shock left in it, then Daryl's death could be it, whilst the character is still remembered fondly enough for his previous actions before he continues shuffling too far down the road of mediocrity and anonymity.
