The Walking Dead: 7 Things That "The Grove" Did Right (And 3 It Didn't)
3. Carol Killed Karen And David
Carol killed Karen and David. It's settled. It's over. Thank goodness. Ever since we first heard Carol confess to the murders back in October, a hefty (and vocal) percentage of viewers have been doggedly suggesting other culprits for the crime and concocting elaborate explanations as to why she would take the blame. The most popular alternate theory was that Carol's "messed up" ward Lizzie had done the deed and that Carol was trying to protect her from retribution. There was substantial if subjective evidence that Lizzie could have been the guilty party, and it's difficult to blame Carol fans for wanting the confession to be false. Over the past several months, discussions of the matter turned into debates, debates turned into arguments, and arguments turned into social media wars. Well, ding dong, the debate is dead: Carol killed Karen and David. Of course, it didn't die in peace. The major argument as to why Carol did not do it had been that the killings would have been out of character, but if the writers has backtracked to pin the blame on Lizzie, Carol would have come out looking even worse. Agree or disagree with her rationale for the murders, there's no denying that she acted out of desperation and with the best of intentions. If she had accepted Rick's exile and left a murderous Lizzie with access to all of the unsuspecting survivors, Carol's character would have been beyond redemption. Besides, if Lizzie had truly been the killer, she certainly would not have been harmed at the prison. Tyreese may have been a danger to Carol or any other adult in his state after the bodies were discovered, but even he would not have advocated the execution of a troubled little girl. No, for Carol's character (and the writers of the show) to retain any integrity, she had to be the one who killed Karen and David. And she was. Not that that bodes well for her.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
