The Walking Dead: Hershel’s 11 Most Badass Acts

6. Hershel Jokes Around In A Tense Situation

Hershel Joke In €˜Arrow On The Doorpost€™ (S3 E13), Rick and the Governor try to strike an agreement while their backup waits outside. Hershel and Daryl stand at odds against Milton and Martinez, and the tension is thicker than the stench of walkers as they wait outside in silence. Milton eventually breaks the ice, asking about Hershel€™s leg. He asks to see it, but Hershel playfully responds, "you haven€™t even bought me a drink yet.€ Daryl and Martinez are working hard to remain stoic and threatening throughout the situation, but Hershel transcends their serious demeanour, acting as though it€™s just another day. In a sense, Hershel is laughing directly in the face of danger. At least, it€™s a face much more dangerous than the walkers. The walkers are killing machines, but the Governor and his crew are much more sinister €“ Hershel knows what the Governor did to his daughter and Glenn, but that doesn't make him back down. In fact, he's ready to mock the Governor and his crew, even if he only has some lame dad jokes in his arsenal. He€™s going to punish the Governor for his crimes, but it doesn't stop him from occasionally adding some levity to the situation.
