The Walking Dead Season 4 Finale: 6 Definitive Things That We Learned

3. Rick Is The Sole Leader

At the end of season four, Rick Grimes is the man. Since the death of his wife and the first assault on the prison by the Governor, fans have had to endure a Rick that became incredibly unsure about himself not just as a leader but also as a father. Season four picked up with a much more domesticated man that was trying to take a step back from the hectic world he was forced to raise a son in. Fans were a bit shocked at the Rick that we first saw in the early part of season four. After the formation of a prison high council, the original leader had nothing to do with it. It was refreshing to go back and see the flashback sequences that popped up throughout the finale as Hershel takes the time to help Rick understand that he doesn't have to be the one carrying the burden of the entire group all of the time. With the fall of the prison at the hands of the Governor and the scattering of all of its survivors culminating in their eventual reunion, the last scene of the season proved to be one of the best and most anticipated. As Rick and company are sealed off, together at last, within the confines of a rail car, Rick reassures the group that the Terminus survivors are messing with the wrong people. It's a stunning final scene to an epic season because even though Rick and company appear to be at their absolute worst, there is supreme confidence in what he says as Rick has finally come full circle.
