The Walking Dead Season 4 Finale: 6 Definitive Things That We Learned

2. Daryl's Loyalties Have Been Defined

After Daryl is separated from Beth and meets up with Joe and his group, the direction that he would take was an enormous question mark. After the fall of the prison, fans are introduced to a character that appears to have lost all hope as the world he has slowly tried to rebuild is once again ripped out of his hands. What makes Daryl such a great character on The Walking Dead is that he has a troubled past, but is able to recover from them in a post apocalyptic world. It's no surprise to once again find Daryl struggling after the fall while wandering in the woods with Beth; assuming that they were the only two to survive the attack on the prison. Up until her pairing with Daryl, Beth was easily considered one of the lesser characters on the show. But in the end, it's Beth that helps define Daryl the most when he's at his lowest point. At the point of Beth's disappearance and Daryl's introduction to Joe, it was easy to speculate on where Daryl would fall. Would he adopt his old ways or would he cling to that newfound inner strength Beth had helped him discover? In the end, Daryl chose the side of his new family and to the contentment of enumerable fans it was the right side. The dialogue that followed between Daryl and Rick was also some of the most powerful between the two characters up to this point.
