3. The Walker Mafia

It might not fit the chronology, or indeed the set-up of the comics, but there's a theory that Gareth is a reimagined version of Negan, the current villain terrorising the survivors in the Walking Dead comics. This version would see the community of Hilltop transposed to Terminus, and rather than having Rick and his fellow new arrivals rising to positions of power in the community, and thus cutting off Negan's group (The Saviours) from their supply line of protection food and supplies, it would mean a fairly dramatic change around of the dynamic. But that shouldn't discount the theory, considering how far the show has occasionally deviated away from the comics. There is a chance that Gareth/Negan attacked Terminus looking to extort the inhabitants, who refused, and were duly locked up or dealt with. The Hints Those muffled shouts coming from the trailers seems to suggest captives, and if they aren't being immediately eaten (if that's your favourite theory), then perhaps the unlucky lot are suffering for not being able to pay up, with their punishment set as being fed to the next walkers who appear. Hopefully, this isn't the case, as the jump cuts out a lot of very good story material.
