The Walking Dead Season 5: 10 Things That Need To Happen
8. Rick Grimes At Centre Stage
Andrew Lincoln has drawn considerable praise for his starring role as Rick Grimes, the sheriff who fell into a coma as the zombie outbreak started and only recovered consciousness when everything had already gone to hell. Not only did he have the good grace not the mention that was a total rip-off of 28 Days Later, he also managed to conceal the plummy English accent he had on show in the sort of stuff he made in his home country. For the first couple of seasons it was mainly his accent that people complimented, since the actual character of Rick didn't have a whole lot to do other than be sad about his cheating wife and lending his oversized hat to his bratty kid. Then certain things happened (ie said cheating wife, Lori, carking it) and suddenly Rick got a whole lot more interesting. As the levels of desperation have been skyrocketing it often seems like the sheriff's sanity is on its last tether, which is incredibly exciting, because it means he does reckless and entertaining stuff. After coming into his own more in the third season, however, old Grimey got pushed into the background a little when the conflict with The Governor really kicked into high gear, as the show finally decided to flesh out some of the ensemble. Which was definitely more than welcome, but it's probably about time for Rick to wrestle back control of the spotlight. If only for the hairdressers watching to get a better look at his developing mullet.
