Now we're going to just lay it out right now. Rick isn't getting killed by Lucille. His plot armor is so thick that you could have him dismembered in one episode, have everyone confirm his death, and then see him perfectly fine the very next week. Andrew Lincoln's actor could quit the show and Rick would still appear in every episode. That's just how invincible he is. But if they ended the season with Rick taking a blast to the face from Lucille, it could work as a good cliffhanger for fans of the show (but not the comic) to wonder if Rick died from his wounds. It would also show viewers just how serious of a threat Negan is if he drops the main character within minutes of his reveal. Then everyone can feel better when Rick becomes the bigger man and refuses to kill Negan after everything he went through.
