WandaVision Finale Ending EXPLAINED
1. Nick Fury Contacts Monica Rambeau
WandaVision is actually set a few months before Spider-Man: Far From Home, which should go some way in putting the finale's mid-credits scene into a little more context.
As Jimmy Woo and the FBI descend upon Westview to build their case against Hayward and S.W.O.R.D., Monica is approached by an agent who asks her to go into the town theatre, as there are other agents waiting to talk to her.
When Monica enters the building however it quickly becomes apparent that no one is there. At this point, the agent reveals herself to be a Skrull, the shapeshifting race of aliens first introduced in Captain Marvel, and the group who Monica's mother, Maria, assisted back in the 1990s.
The Skrull agent informs Monica that she was sent by "a friend of [her] mother's" who'd like to meet her, also mentioning how the person who sent her was aware that she'd been "grounded" (referencing the fact she's not been able to get off-world). When Monica asks where they'd like to meet, the Skrull points upwards, towards space, with the implication being that Nick Fury is putting a team together in the ship he's seen residing in at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Monica is set to play a key role in the next Captain Marvel film, which is set to release in 2022, so it would be wise to expect Nick Fury to be involved too. We don't know what team he's assembling - whether it's S.T.R.I.K.E., Alpha Flight, or something else - or how this will all play into Secret Invasion (one of a number of Marvel shows coming to Disney+ in the next few years), but it's great to know that Monica will be up there in the stars where she belongs, and with her awesome new set of powers to boot.
