WandaVision Finale Ending EXPLAINED

Scarlet Witch and Vision's journey together is finally over, but what's next for the MCU?

WandaVision Episode Nine
Marvel Studios

WandaVision's finale dropped this Friday and as expected the ending held massive implications not just for Wanda Maximoff and Vision, but for the overall direction and future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.

The finale had a lot of loose threads to resolve, and while mostly everything was wrapped up in a neat little (traumatic) package, there were still plenty of other elements left intentionally up in the air, including two dynamite mid and post-credits sequences that set up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.

There will of course be MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for the WandaVision finale here, so if you haven't watched it yet and don't wish to be spoiled, please avert thyne gaze and watch the episode as soon as possible. After that, you can come back and enjoy this lovely little breakdown, but until then, best skedaddle.

So as previously mentioned WandaVision's ninth episode had a lot left to resolve. There was the subject of the mysterious book first spotted in Agatha's basement in episode seven, the status of Wanda's twins Billy and Tommy and whether or not they'd be able to survive without the Hex, or fall apart like Vision; the true identity of Fake Pietro (Fietro); Monica Rambeau's new powers; Wanda's destiny as the Scarlet Witch AND Hayward's introduction of White Vision.

That's a lot? It sounds like a lot. Let's start with the cursed book...

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
