WandaVision: What Is The Hex REALLY?
4. A S.W.O.R.D. Creation?
We first find that the boundary is a Hexagonal shape within episode four, when we find ourselves at the S.W.O.R.D base, outside of Westview. The scan of the village is surrounded by a red hexagonal line which, we know due to Monica Rambeau, is the boundary between the two realities.
However, this is not the first time we see a hexagon within this episode. When Monica finds herself waking up in hospital, unaware of the blip which had occurred, she finds Maria Rambeau has passed and that she had been missing for five years. Missing her mother, and with no other place to go, she finds herself at S.W.O.R.D., ready to return to work.
In her absence, Tyler Hayward has taken up the position of Acting Director. When stepping into his office we can see the hexagonal formation of his certificates on the wall, along with a pattern of hexagonal shapes on the rug below. While this may just be a stylistic choice by Hayward for displaying his achievements, it could be something much more sinister. And knowing Disney, they are hinting at him being connected in a much more important way. After all, if the hexagons are a trauma trigger for Wanda, Hayward would know as he was the one working on Vision's corpse.
While this is not the first time we witness the hexagon within the series, it is the first time we see it within the reality of S.W.O.R.D. Perhaps, it will be the case that S.W.O.R.D. has been infiltrated and that the reality in which Wanda is living is somehow controlled by Hayward, or perhaps Hayward has made a deal with the true controller as we are aware that he is tracking Vision’s decaying Vibranium signature. In Hayward’s attempt to retrieve Vision, he could be trapping him and Wanda within this space and time.
