WandaVision: What Is The Hex REALLY?
2. Representative Of Six
Just as the animated clock had its bottom point blackened out, the other clocks all miss the number six.
We also witness the removal of the number six on the radio which Jimmy Woo uses to contact Wanda. If you look closely, the number six is removed from the clock face. And while this clock had the hour, minute, and seconds hand, we do not see it move. In fact, the second hand does not shift at all during the time Woo is speaking - it is stuck on the minute. This is also the same from the Strucker watch commercial in which we can hear a ticking noise, but the actual watch face does not change or move.
Considering the number of clocks within this series, it would not be wrong to assume that time, and particularly the time of six o’clock, may be significant. While often the clocks are set well before six o’clock, there are a few instances in which the clocks jump. This is not to say that they are working or moving, but perhaps the creators are judging the way in which clocks work within sitcoms. Often the clocks would be part of the décor, and therefore not functioning and would not move. However, other times if a real clock were used, the time would jump as if not having any significance to the time of day they were trying to portray.
Take for example the two clocks within the ToastMate 2000 advert. The first clock is set for just after six o’clock, whereas the second is set for a few minutes earlier. This reversal of time does not match how we would expect time to work as the male demonstrator moves from the old toaster to the new. The clocks may be a symbol of Wanda attempting to reverse time to a place when Vision was alive. Perhaps, even, to Edinburgh, just as Wanda and Vision were devising a plan to run away.
Obviously you can't mention the number six without being reminded of the devil. Perhaps the removal of the number six from the clocks is an indicator of the appearance of the much-anticipated villain, Mephisto. After all, WandaVision does have a preoccupation with this pattern of six. From the hexagons to atoms, clocks, and décor. Wanda is seemingly surrounded by the number six, whether she knows it or not.
