Westworld Season 1: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Chestnut'
5. Anthony Hopkins Really Starts To Shine
Westworld boasts an extremely talented cast, full of well established character actors and upcoming stars, and leading them all is the legendary Anthony Hopkins.
The Oscar winner could monologue about paint drying and give it great depth, meaning, and sense of gravitas, so it's no surprise that he's really able to shine here with some strong material to work with.
He was very good in the first episode, but we really start getting into the character here, especially as he heads into Westworld for a little exploration of his own. Everything he does and says is extremely considered, and makes you want to listen and know more. All of his actions are incredibly thoughtful, and at times moving. The scene where he interacts with the young boy is particularly great, but his scenes with Jeffrey Wright carry plenty of spark as well (the only real human-on-human interactions to have that).
Dr Robert Ford is an extremely enigmatic figure in Westworld, and it seems there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. Getting to explore those depths via Hopkins' performance is going to be a wonderful experience.
