Westworld Season 1: 7 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Chestnut'

1. It Ramps Up The Intrigue... And The Violence

One of the big things that's going to keep people interested in the show is the big sense of mystery running throughout. Only a couple of episodes in, we already have a lot of big questions that could well span the entire season (and maybe even beyond), concerning the likes of the Gunslinger, the previous critical failure, and what exactly is happening to the hosts (and where that's leading).

This episode keeps on piling on the intrigue, doing a good job of making you think that it might be about to offer up some answers - the Man in Black reveals part of what he's after, Bernard goes into what he said to Peter Abernathy - but then just creates more and more questions, all wrapped up in an incredibly entertaining and exciting package.

The series is already a very confident one, so it's not afraid to keep layering things up, nor is it shying away from adding to the violence and action that are likely to form a big part of each episode's appeal. The episode is on the whole probably of a par with the first, but what it really does well is turning things up a notch and escalating the drama and the mystery.
