It was O’Bengh who said to Stephen Strange that love can shatter your mind as well as break your heart. This certainly proved true, as not only did the Sorcerer Surpreme lose his heart with the death of Christine Palmer, over and over, he lost his soul, and arguably lost his sanity.

In the desperation to somehow save his love, Doctor Strange put the fate of his entire universe in the balance. When the version of Strange that was split from the Sorcerer Supreme by the Ancient One stepped outside after his whiskey, the extent of the damage was revealed.

Everyone and everything was melting around him into a weird black goo. The two halves of the same character fought, but it was Doctor Strange Supreme that emerged victorious thanks to his new powers consumed from creatures throughout the galaxy. Even with all this power however, he couldn’t save Christine, and he was still responsible for the end of the entire universe.

In those final moments, he sensed and saw the Watcher and begged for help. Uatu however, simply lectured Strange on why he wouldn’t, and watched as an entire universe crumbled. This was an insanely dark ending to the episode, though thankfully, it wouldn’t be the last we saw of this particular version of Stephen Strange.
