When Wanda Maximoff lost Vision, first after killing him herself, then having to watch Thanos turn back time just to kill him all over again, she suffered a breakdown. She was supposed to move to New Jersey and grow old with her love, but instead she lost him, and took over an entire town and its population to create a reality where she could have him back.

In the zombie episode of What If…?, Marvel Studios gave fans a look at what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot. How exactly would Vision react if Wanda was taken from him? As it turns out, he would do something even more horrific.

When Wanda was turned into a zombie, Vision tried to save her in the same way he saved Scott’s head, but her powers were too strong, and she resisted. Instead, he kept her in the basement of Camp Lehigh, and in order to feed her, he kept T’Challa alive so she could eat him bit by bit.

He couldn’t eliminate her, for the love he had for her was too strong, so instead he lured innocents to their deaths to keep her and her appetite contained. All in the name of love.
