What If...? - 25 Biggest WTF Moments

5. Is Star Wars Now MCU Canon?

What If...? Guardians Of The Multiverse
Marvel Studios

As Uatu and Ultron fought and smashed through the multiverse, there were, of course, infinite possibilities for what they would see. Each different universe is unique, sometimes by only the tiniest of details, but as this series has shown, this can sometimes spiral into something completely different.

There was one universe in which Steve Rogers was being sworn in to become the President of the United States, and another that became instantly aware of the Watcher’s existence, as the citizens took pictures and videos of him as soon as he hit the ground.

However, there was a universe in which the Watcher landed that may just be a simple easter egg, but may also have a much bigger implication on the wider MCU. Eagle eyed fans of both What If…? and of Star Wars spotted that there was a universe that looked exactly the same as Mustafar, the planet on which Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker fought in Revenge of the Sith.

The detail was so similar that in the background Darth Vader’s castle could be seen, potentially meaning that Star Wars takes place within the Marvel Universe. Star Wars comics are published through Marvel, Disney owns the rights to both franchises, and at one point there was an idea to even try and include Luke Skywalker in What If…?. Could this be the beginning of an even bigger crossover than the X-Men finally coming to the MCU?
