What If? Marvel Zombies - 10 Things You Need To Know

5. The Series Is Genuinely Horrifying

What If Marvel Zombies
Marvel Comics

Even though zombie stories are often classified as horror, you'd assume Marvel would tone down the graphic violence and gore. After all, you can't have the Hulk eating civilians or Hawkeye ripping people's brains out, can you?

Oh, wait. You can. Although most Marvel properties are acceptable for readers of all ages, Marvel Zombies absolutely isn't. Eyes are gouged out, bodies are torn asunder, and innocent people are ripped to pieces by iconic superheroes.

One of the most haunting moments is when Zombie Spider-Man eats Mary Jane Watson and his Aunt May after he fails to control his cravings. (Also, watching Spidey webslinging around the city using his veins as web-shooters is disgusting.)

Another gruelling moment is when we learn Hank Pym has imprisoned an uninfected Black Panther and lives off his flesh by hacking off pieces of his arms and legs. Even though Pym felt guilty listening to Black Panther begging to die, he refused to put his former friend out of his misery. Its moments like this that made readers realise there are worse fates than being turned into a zombie.
