What The BoJack Horseman Voice Actors Look Like In Real Life
1. Will Arnett
Additional Voice: Butterscotch Horseman
Will Arnett plays both BoJack and his father, meaning he’s the only one involved in Free Churro’s dialogue. An impressive feat in itself, but the true genius of Arnett’s performance comes from the vulnerability he creates for BJ.
BoJack is a pretty deplorable person when you strip it down to his actions, but there’s a heart to the way Arnett voices him which gives him an extra slice of audience sympathy. It's especially stark when Butterscotch is shown to be almost completely unsympathetic and spikily harsh in every interaction.
So much so that the show even had to address the sympathy for BoJack through Philbert, reminding audiences that they weren't actually supposed to connect with BoJack, or at least that if they did, they were supposed to see that as a wake up call and change their ways.
Arnett himself has heavy sitcom experience from 30 Rock, Arrested Development, The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, as well as voicing DC's Batman and Slade in The LEGO Movie and Teen Titans respectively.
