7. Colin's Promotion

Joy-sucking energy vampire Colin Robinson tends to get less focus than his three more traditionally vampiric housemates. Even he seems unsure about his whole deal, at one point questioning whether he was actually dead or not. This episode, in which he gets a promotion at his genetically beige office job, finally allows him to take centre stage (while revealing that even Colin Robinson himself doesn't actually know what his company does).

"He's a wild card, that one," is Nandor's inapt description of the man who bleeds blandness. "He's not a wild card. He's the card you get on the top of the deck that has instructions on it, so you throw it away," Nadja sums up more accurately.

And herein lies the interest in this episode. Colin Robinson's talent for literally boring people to death may sustain him, but it also makes it hard for him to form lasting friendships.

Even while his promotion gives him a huge psychic power boost - allowing him to draw energy from Nadja and Nandor quarrelling over the latter sacking the former's village centuries before she was born - it also further isolates him from housemates who already see him as a tiresome nuisance.

Colin's Promotion offers equal parts silliness and pathos for the supernaturally tedious man who sometimes just wants genuine companionship.
