What We Do In The Shadows - 10 Best Episodes So Far
3. The Curse
The vampires' helplessness in the absence of Guillermo is a big theme of the second season and this episode illustrates it better than any other, with its two plot strands working perfectly together to inject some chaotic farce into the Shadows world.
With Guillermo having discovered the "Mosquito Collectors" group that he had thought a prime location to find virgins for his master are actually a set of vampire hunters, he makes the decision to infiltrate the group. While his bumbling efforts to turn the "hunters" away from actually hunting vampires for the first time prove ineffectual, Guillermo's undead housemates are terrified by a very different threat.
Nandor actually checking his emails for the first time in years discovers that he has been "cursed" by a chain letter that requires him to send it on to ten other people to curse them instead. The only trouble is the non-net savvy vamps don't even know ten email addresses. And, instead of being there to reveal to them the ridiculousness of this scenario, Guillermo ends up accidentally stoking the fires of panic with a garbled phone call about the danger they are in (although he means from the vampire hunters not antiquated memes).
The very fact that the online environment the vampires encounter is itself so outdated - Hotmail accounts, mailer daemons, and chain letters - just makes their complete lack of awareness even funnier. They're so out of touch that they're out of touch with what's already in the past.
