Why Doctor Who Banned The Daleks

The Doctor's greatest enemy almost never returned to the series.

In all of science-fiction, there aren't two sworn enemies as well known as the Doctor and the Daleks. Since the Daleks first appeared in 1963, they have evolved to become a constant thorn in the Doctor's side, and the two go together like peas and carrots, or Luke Skywalker and the Force if you want to get sci-fi about it.

Over the many years of the BBC programme, the Doctor has found himself at odds against the Daleks over and over again. With the BBC series going strong with its 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, fans have wondered one thing: where are the Daleks in the main series episodes?

Whittaker played the Doctor for two series, beginning in 2018, and the one villain who hasn't bothered to show up outside of a special has been the Daleks. As it happens, there's a reason for the Daleks' absence, and in April 2019, it was reported that they were being "Exterminated!" from the program.

The news hit fans hard, and many were clamouring to find out why their favourite villain was no longer going to appear against the Doctor. There's a story behind the extermination of the Daleks, and while it may not please fans to learn it, at the very least, it's an explanation for their absence.
