Why It's Fashionable To Hate Friends Now

3. The Casual Sexual Harassment

Friends Rick Phoebe
NBC

Friends might have taken aim at sex as as source of comedy throughout its ten year run, but it definitely had some problematic moments that were bound to come under discussion in the post-Weinstein scandal world. Hell, we should have noticed it a lot more at the time.

Ross pretends to be a masseuse in order to get to massage an attractive female client (and ends up abusing her grandfather with kitchen utensils), Rachel abuses her position to hire and seduce Tag, Phoebe bites a massage client. On top of that, Ross tries to kiss his own cousin and even charming, harmless Joey turns the temperature up in his apartment to 100 degrees to try to make Janine walk around in her underwear in the 6th episode Thanksgiving episode.

No wonder Rachel thinks that "taking care of a drunk naked woman sounds like a job for Joey!"

Even more worryingly, the show also makes a joke of Joey being molested by a tailor. it has a serious problem with knowing where the line of appropriateness is and it's fair game to criticise it in that respect.
