WWE HELL IN A CELL 2011 Preview
Tonight sees the third edition of WWE's Hell in a Cell PPV, an event which whilst enticing in theory usually feels haphazard and rushed in execution.
Hell in a Cell PPV, an event which whilst enticing in theory usually feels haphazard and rushed in execution. This is partly due to the nonsenical two week gap following on from the Night of Champions PPV and beause of the nature of the cell itself which historically has been used quite sparingly and only when heated rivalries have felt intense enough to warrant matches taking place in such an environment. With such an event set in stone however it diminishes both the shock factor of a sudden Hell in a Cell announcement and annoyingly means that such matches now must nearly all be booked to take place on the same night. With the early signs indicating a poor Summerslam buyrate sending alarming bells ringing around the company the question is whether or not WWE have done enough to convince people that its money matches are worthy of the Hell in a Cell name. Let's take a look at the updated card to examine this cause. Hell in a Cell Title Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title: John Cena (C) vs Alberto Del Rio vs CM Punk Although the WWE are notorious for rewriting history, this match genuinely will be the first time that a triple threat match has taken place inside the steel structure and in that there is some genuine intrigue as to how the bout will be worked. All three men have good chemistry on a one to one basis and so I'm expecting something of a show stealer here. Hopeful Winner: John Cena (Because I can't cope with yet another WWE Title change.) Likely Winner: Alberto Del Rio (Has suffered setbacks in the build-up and the triple threat rules seem designed for the sneaky heel to capitalise in a manner that doesn't make the megaface champion seem inferior.) Hell in a Cell Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Mark Henry vs Randy Orton The only truly compelling rivarly in the WWE and the only possible company match-up (besides a Punk/Hunter rematch) that actually does feel well suited to being inside the cell. Long term planning has rewarded fans with a classic old school immortal babyface versus dominant heel rivarly and there is a lot of dramatic intrigue based on whether or not Orton can avenge his shocking loss to Henry from Night of Champions. Hopeful Winner: Mark Henry (So that he can give the rub to a current upper midcard face later on down the road and in the process help make a genuine new headliner). Likely Winner: Randy Orton (Because I don't have much faith in the company giving a heel any kind of meaningful World Title reign anymore and the booking of this feud just seems too perfect to be true). Sheamus vs Christian Sheamus was the fall guy for Christian when Captain Charisma was busy feuding with Randy Orton and the in ring chemistry between the two men was very strong during their tv matches. Now the Irishman is keen to prove to the former champ that he is on the same playing field whilst Christian wants Sheamus out of the picture. Hopeful Winner: Christian (so that he can use the victory as an ego booster in his continued quest for one more (World Title) match only for Sheamus to knock him off his high horse at their next outing. Likely Winner: Sheamus (Christian has laid him out two shows running so it looks as if revenge is on the cards this Sunday). Tag Team Titles: Air Boom (C) vs Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger With Dolph and Swagger competing for their manager Vickie Guerrero's affections, it seems as if the Tag Titles are once again being used as props in order to further a storyline rivarly between the hastily thrown together challengers. With four fine workers here however it should still be an exciting spectacle. Hopeful Winner: Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger (Because Vickie intefering on their behalf to help them win the gold would actually make the titles seem valuable and make her new multi-gold wearing faction look pretty attractive in the process). Likely Winner: Air Boom (Causing Dolph and Swagger to begin turning on each other much sooner than they should. Hopefully I'm wrong here.) Divas Title: Kelly Kelly (C) vs Beth Pheonix The third straight PPV outing between the pair. Kelly has won both previous contests with sneaky roll up pins causing Beth to become increasingly aggrovated in the build up to each match. Impressive go home angle on Smackdown saw Beth cut a good promo on her rival whilst Natalya had her locked in the sharpshooter. Hopeful Winner: Beth Pheonix (because otherwise she's going to look more incompetent than a heel should ever look.) Likely Winner: Beth Pheonix Sin Cara (Blue Mask) vs Sin Cara (Black Mask) Expect the world botching record to be broken in this super silly real identity feud. The crowd have no idea what is going on with this storyline so the matter of booking is really kind of void. My only hope is that we see some unqiue high flying manoveurs amidst all the unattractive chaos. So before I leave it over to you. Are you looking forward to Hell in a Cell despite such a limited build? If so which matches do you find appealing and who do you think should prevail within them? Thanks for reading and you can look forward to my review tomorrow evening. WWE Hell in a Cell 2011 is live on PPV tonight, showing on Sky Box Office in the UK.
