X-Men ’97: 10 Things We Want To See

To me, my X-Men...

Recently, Disney announced plans to release several upcoming Marvel projects. Even though fans were excited about seeing brand new shows, the one that got comic fans most excited was X-Men '97 - a revival of 1992's X-Men: The Animated Series.

The Children of the Atom have had many animated adaptations such as X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men, but the original is still considered, not just the best but the greatest Marvel cartoon ever. Many kids growing up in the 1990s were introduced to Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit and Storm thanks to this marvellous series.

Due to the show's open-ended... um... ending, fans hoped X-Men would be revived in the future. And 24 years after it was cancelled, that hope has become a reality. With the original creators and most of the original cast returning, the upcoming cartoon will not be a reboot but a direct continuation of the series that millions of fans watched and loved.

Because there is so much hype surrounding this project, fans are already speculating what we might see. Will Magneto join his arch-enemies? Will Wolverine finally square off against the Hulk? And the big question - how is it all going to end?

10. Retrieving Professor X From The Sh'iar

In the final episode of X-Men: The Animated Series, mutant hater Henry Gyrich blasted Professor Charles Xavier, leaving him at death's door. Realising no technology on Earth could heal Professor X, the X-Men had him transported across the galaxy where the Sh'iar empire healed him. Because Xavier needed constant care, his students accepted the fact that they would never see their mentor again.

Since there's no way you can have an X-Men revival without the team's creator, it's likely the show will start with the merry mutants making plans to retrieve the professor. Because the show's writers, Eric and Julia Lewald, planned another season, there was a draft written for this exact scenario. In this new season, the X-Men would've disbanded after becoming disillusioned by the world's growing hatred towards mutants. But after receiving a psychic distress call from their teacher, the X-Men venture to space to help Xavier and find a way to bring him home.

No plot points have been disclosed about the upcoming show but it's probable that elements from this draft will make their way into X-Men '97.
