6. How Did Joe Become A Sociopath?
Joe’s flashbacks featuring Candace and Mr. Mooney take up a good portion of screen time. They provide some insight into how Joe became a sociopath.
Joe had a complicated relationship with Mr. Mooney, who is the owner of the bookstore Joe manages. The whereabouts of Joe’s parents was never explained, but it’s clear that Mr. Mooney helped to raise Joe and the physical and mental abuse he suffered left a mark on him.
In Season 2, there will be more flashbacks which should reveal more information about Joe’s childhood with Mr. Mooney, and if he really did help to create a monster.
