Though Penn Badgley has been unparalleled in his mission to show fans just how messed up Joe is - and why feeling anything akin to sympathy towards him is wrong - not all of the cast members seem to feel the same. While they're not exactly advocating forgiving the poor guy his gruesome deeds, they do try to justify fans' views on him.

Elizabeth Lail, who on the show plays Beck, Joe's victim, in her interview with Refinery29 had said:

"It makes me wonder, why are we attracted to things that we know are bad? It’s like a vice. Joe is a kind of vice because he’s fulfilling all of these romantic tropes. He is the hero in some ways because of how he presents himself. I think people are attracted to that, and they’re rooting for Beck and Joe to make it work — like maybe they’ll be the perfect amount of crazy for each other."

She's not the only one who tries to see some reasoning behind why the fans are pulled towards his character. Shay Mitchell, who plays Peach - sort of Joe's nemesis, as they fight for Beck's affection throughout the course of the show until ultimately, he manages to kill her - had also commented on the matter. As she told Refinery29:

"You can romanticize elements of his character, but if you romanticize his entire outlook on life, then that might be an issue."

As Mitchell said - while you can romanticize elements of his character, going to the extreme might be a bit concerning. Especially if you talk on the internet how much you'd like to be kidnapped by Joe.
