It needs to be said that Penn Badgley has been pretty epic at dealing with the fans' strange obsession over Joe. From replying to people on Twitter and not leaving doubt about how he feels about his character, to speaking out in interviews, Badgley made it killer: Joe is the villain. And, despite the producers trying to make him look sympathetic at times, we are not supposed to like him.
In his interview with People, Badgley commented that Joe is a "disgusting human being". He mentioned that he was indeed concerned about the way that viewers receive his character and if, instead of marking him as a creepy stalker, will start liking him instead. In the end, seems like his fears came true, as fans came to Badgley directly on Twitter, thirsting over Joe.
