Young Justice: Outsiders – 8 Ups & 1 Down From Episodes 4-6

Young Justice's standalone adventures were undoubtedly one of the major factors that made the show work. Their charm didn't just lie in the fact that they were great episodes, but that they always managed to find some subtle method of furthering the overall story. Thankfully that hasn't changed in 'Outsiders' as both 'Private Security' and 'Away Mission' adopted a similar format - giving us a fun self-contained plot to develop the characters instead of the story. Like always, it worked like a dream.

However, the issue here is the fact that we got two of these standalone episodes in a row, followed by one that danced around the main story with its own self-contained plot (Brion's defiance). While all of these episodes would have worked perfectly on their own, the problem is that we now effectively have three of these seemingly random adventures coming straight after three plot-heavy episodes that were so linked they may as well have been a three-part movie. As a result, this week's trio almost felt redundant in terms of overall story progression.

Perhaps it's more down to the fact both bursts of episodes so far have been quite contrasting and, as a result, we went from block storytelling one week to very little plot movement in the next. It's by no means a major issue, as all six episodes have been of an incredibly high standard, but the on-again/off-again format isn't one that the show should continue to adopt as it could hinder the progression of its overarching narrative.
