10 UFC Fighters Who Lost To Surprising Opponents

6. Court McGee Def. Robert Whittaker

There are no bones about it - Court "The Crusher" McGee is one tough S.O.B. It takes an incredible amount of grit to fight through a cocaine and heroin addiction, teach yourself how to walk and talk again, then go on to win Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter. Sadly, he's failed to make significant waves in the UFC since then.

Still, he does hold one noteworthy victory over former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert "The Reaper" Whittaker.

In Bobby Knuckles' third fight for the promotion at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 on August 28th, 2013, he took on Court McGee in one of the three Welterweight fights on the main card. The 3-round, back-and-forth affair ultimately saw McGee take home the victory by way of Split Decision.

Wait...did I just say "Welterweight"?

Yes, believe it or not, Whittaker actually began his UFC career at 170 pounds. But, with a mediocre record of 3-2 as a Welterweight, he decided it was time for a change. And thankfully, he did, because he would go on an absolute rampage at Middleweight, winning both the Interim and legit Middleweight Championship as well as 11 of his last 12 fights, the only outlier being a KO loss to current champ Israel Adesanya.

McGee, meanwhile, has struggled. He's gone 4-7 since the Whittaker bout, beating previous entry Claudio Silva (among other lesser-known talents) but losing to higher-level opponents such as Sean Strickland and Santiago Ponzinibbio. That said, he looked very strong in his last fight with Silva, so perhaps a career resurgence is on the horizon.
