1 Up & 2 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Jul 12)
Ups...
1. Leaving An Impact
Perhaps the only positive point from the whole discussion throughout the episode was that the legit departure of Johnny Impact from the company has been worked into the story, as he walked out following his loss to Rich Swann at Slammiversary. Johnny's contract had reportedly ended a few weeks prior, but he stayed on to work through the Swann rivalry.
While it may not seem like the biggest thing of all time, it's good to see that it's actually being mentioned on-air as opposed to him just disappearing all of a sudden. It's a bit of a rarity nowadays - if a real-life departure from a smaller promotion is used as part of the show, it's typically because that person is joining a major company or is hanging up their boots, so they deserve a big sendoff. Otherwise, you can normally expect to just them gone, and never seen again. Typically, major companies try to reduce their relevance as much as possible on the way out.
It's a shame that someone leaving the company is the only positive thing we can take away from the show. But there simply wasn't much else that was good about this week's offering of Impact.
