Wrestling is supposed to offer escapism from real-world events. It's scripted entertainment, and shouldn't demand anybody think about serious topics like racism, terrorism or war whilst watching. So, WWE deserves a slap for putting fledgling star Marc Copani into the role of Muhammad Hassan in late-2004.

This race baiting gimmick saw Hassan incite hatred of Muslims on live TV. It was the kind of thing the biz was supposed to have moved on from, but apparently not. Worse, when WWE received significant backlash due to grim events like 2005's London bombings, it was Copani who took most of the flak.

His once-promising wrestling career was annihilated in the blink of an eye once management decided to write Hassan off television and pretend the character didn't exist. Copani was never given another shot at company success before being released from his contract in September '05.

He'd been a victim of WWE stupidity and crassness, then got punted for doing as he was told.
