10 AEW Originals Who Are Struggling In 2022
3. Kip Sabian
In April 2021, a vicious attack from Miro wrote Kip Sabian off TV so he could have shoulder surgery. Sabian wouldn’t wrestle for well over a year, but he found a way to return to TV much sooner. “Superbad” spent month after month with a cardboard box on his head, building to a return it would be generous to call long awaited. His reward was an All Atlantic title shot against PAC, and since then he’s been relegated to YouTube.
Sabian has never really clicked in AEW before injury removed him from TV. Teaming with Jimmy Havoc brought him a shot at the tag team titles, but soon revelations about Havoc’s private life brought that pairing to a swift conclusion. His time at the side of new-signing Miro underwhelmed and the minute Kip was out of the picture Miro soared, which was a damning indictment for the Englishman.
Changes in Sabian’s absence didn’t make his comeback any easier, and with stars like Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson now in the picture, even guys like Adam Page have struggled for minutes. A year or two earlier his new gimmick might have been given some time to breathe.
In 2022, competition for TV time is fiercer than ever.
