10 AEW Stars Who Are Perfect For Ring Of Honor
4. Buddy Matthews
Yes, Matthews is part of the House of Black, who seem to finally be building some momentum, but is he really needed?
As the Kings of the Black Throne, Malakai Black and Brody King are just as impactful and terrifying, and to be fair, Matthews doesn’t really fit the group. It’s great that AEW acknowledges wrestling outside of it’s own company, but it’s not as if Matthews and Black have a storied past that deserves recognition.
Matthews is in a tight spot, as he will be featured within House of Black, but he will always be the third man. He lacks the same visual impact as his stablemates and it’s hard for him to stand out in a group he seems ill-fitted for.
The man is an absolute specimen, has movie star looks and a crowd popping offence that couldn’t be further from the dark aesthetic he is being forced into.
As a singles competitor in Ring of Honor, with his eyes on someone like Claudio Castagnoli, Matthews could build up the character he has never really defined and return to AEW a true top contender. The man has all the tools, but hasn't really been given the correct platform to use them.
