10 AEW Wrestlers Who Have Been Booked Terribly In 2022
9. Athena
Heralded as a game changer from the moment she walked through the curtain at Double or Nothing back in May, the former Ember Moon looked set to become a major player in the often under utilised AEW Women's division. Overlooked by WWE for too long, everyone was ready for Athena to show us what she could do.
It hasn't really happened, has it?
There is a hell of a worker in Athena that has yet to be unleashed in AEW, and it's hard to work out why. Yes, she's had some injuries since her break through run in NXT, but she can still go. In a division that needs filling with experienced workers, she should be a major factor in it.
It goes back to Tony Khan's lack of discipline when it comes to hiring workers. Of course you hire Athena if she is available, but where does she fit? Khan clearly had plans for Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm before the champ went down injured, and Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter are trying to set the world record for the longest break up ever. Jade Cargill is a project that won't be abandoned for a long time.
Therefore, Athena has suffered. You can't bring her in and not use her, but not wanting to alter the plans he had in place, Athena has lost when it counts, which has sent her stock plummeting. Five months in, and she feels like just another name on the list.
