10 AEW Wrestlers Who Have Been Booked Terribly In 2022
4. Eddie Kingston
This year gave Eddie Kingston this iconic moment above. And has since stripped pretty much all of it away.
The realest man in wrestling is beloved by the AEW fanbase. The man got the fans to turn on CM Punk four months into his return, for Christ's sake. Yes, everyone is hating on Punk since the scrum, but that soon after his return? It speaks volumes about how much the fans have connected with Kingston.
The ascent looked in place as he transitioned to a feud with Jericho, but it went on for way too long and it got far to silly. Basing the whole thing on Kingston and AEW's hatred for sports entertainment would have been clever if the whole thing wasn't complete sports entertainment.
The nonsensical rivalry did a lot to kill any of Kingston's momentum in the company, and the look on his face after the horrendous finish to the poor barbed wire match told us he knew it, too. He hasn't really recovered from it, and being suspended for hitting Sammy Guevara (that man again) didn't help.
There was a time where Eddie Kingston versus then AEW Champion, Kenny Omega, seemed like the organic story to tell. Now, he needs to do a lot of work to build back the momentum that this year has stripped him of.
