10 Amazing Wrestling Feuds With AWFUL Endings
6. Randy Savage Vs. Ric Flair (WWE)
Nothing ticked off the Macho Man quite like targeting Miss Elizabeth. When Ric Flair discovered Randy Savage would be his WrestleMania VIII opponent, he did just that.
With Curt Hennig and Bobby Heenan in tow, Flair started throwing rather lewd claims out about himself and Elizabeth. The philandering Nature Boy even threatened to reveal compromising photos of the former Mrs Savage. It was all a hoax of course but one that ignited a blood feud between two of the greatest to ever do it.
Understandably miffed, Savage charged into WrestleMania for a ferocious, emotional title match with Flair. They beat the tar out of each other with Flair even blading (a forbidden act in WWE at the time) to sell his opponent’s ferocity.
Sadly, it was all downhill from there. Flair moved on to ruin Savage’s long-awaited rematch with the Ultimate Warrior at SummerSlam before regaining the belt in a lacklustre bout on Prime Time Wrestling. It was a deflating end to Savage’s second world title reign. With the return of Curt Hennig in the wings and The Ultimate Warrior out the door (again), the Savage vs. Flair dispute fizzled out after Survivor Series with Savage just kind of forgetting all the hell Flair had put him through. Flair moved on to feud with Mr Perfect in an ill-fitting babyface role before being ousted from the company. One can’t help but feel Savage sending Flair packing would’ve been much more satisfying.
