The 2018 rivalry between these two was nothing short of a disaster.

The 2014 one, however, began as a blistering war between two rising stars. Betraying The Shield and cashing in on that awful laugh to become a hated villain, Seth Rollins was knocking his new heel role out of the park. Dean Ambrose, the one many expected to do the aforementioned heel turn, proved to be a fantastic babyface. His passionate, vicious promos on Rollins' betrayal were emotional and nuanced in a way the often creatively sterile WWE scripting isn't. Ambrose connected with audiences everywhere and received immense support in his assault on the Architect.

Rollins escaped Ambrose's clutches time and time again lending further heat to their increasingly personal beef. By Hell In A Cell, many believed it high time Ambrose get his win back and both men move on to main event pushes. There were clues this one might go off the rails earlier on. Ambrose's bizarre mannequin promo in the lead-up was hokey and jarring for one, a goofy misstep in a storyline that boasted plentiful dramatic value.

Despite both workers putting an insane amount of effort into their grudge match, it was all for nought when resident heat killer Bray Wyatt inexplicably butted in. With assistance from a hologram, Wyatt cost Ambrose the match in a result that left fans scratching their heads. Frivolous and deflating, it was a nonsensical epilogue to a once awesome feud.
