WWE has taken some lumps in recent months for how it handles its Black wrestlers. Despite a diverse roster full of talented Black superstars, heading into WrestleMania, a Black wrestler had not won a WWE PLE singles match since Backlash… in Puerto Rico in 2023.

The company was threatening to go a full two years (Backlash took place in early May), but one match on the card all but guaranteed that the drought would end: Jade Cargill versus Naomi. As long as it didn’t end in a double-disqualification, the streak would end.

Thankfully, Cargill defeated Naomi to win and end this embarrassing mark. Hopefully, WWE won’t go another 23 months before the next Black wrestler wins a singles PLE match.
