7. Speaking Of That Cargill/Naomi Match…

Naomi and Jade Cargill broke an even older record with their match on Saturday, a record as old as WrestleMania itself.

Cargill and Naomi became the first women to wrestle a singles match at WrestleMania with no title on the line. No gold, just an old-fashioned grudge match. That might seem impossible, but it’s true. There have been women’s tag matches that have taken place without titles at stake, but every singles bout has been contested for a championship.

It helps that the rivalry between Jade and Naomi was really strong going into Mania, and hopefully it bodes well going forward, that WWE will not simply rely on titles as the impetus for a Mania-worthy match between two women.
