10 Angriest Wrestling Crowds Ever
4. Horsemen Get Some Heat
Unless it's Cyber Sunday - where viewers get to decide whether two competitors face each other in a Street Fight or under Extreme Rules - wrestling fans generally don't get the opportunity to influence the direction of the show they're watching.
One NWA show in 1985, however, was a rare occasion on which they did. Here, Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen turned on fan favourite Dusty Rhodes, unleashing a brutal assault on the American Dream which included (kayfabe) breaking his ankle with the Figure Four Leg Lock.
Fans became so incensed by what they were seeing that they actually held the door of the steel cage they were trapped in shut after a group of good guys turned up to exact some revenge. Whether promoters planned for this or not isn't really clear, but nobody can deny the strength of feeling emanating from the crowd.
These days, most of the major wrestling companies still in operation now take the sensible precaution of erecting the ring a safe distance away from the crowd. The additional takings that might come with an extra row of seats isn't really worth exposing your performers to potentially overzealous spectators.
