These days, Japanese crowds are seen to be on the more civilised end of the wrestling fan spectrum - but it's not unheard of for them to riot, and for evidence of this you need look no further than Antonio Inoki's defeat to Vader in 1987.

At the time, this was seen as a massive upset. Inoki was the biggest star in Japanese wrestling, while pre-WCW Vader was little more than an upstart. It would be like Baron Corbin going over to NJPW and beating Kazuchika Okada after just a couple of weeks.

Some of those in the crowd were so outraged that their hometown hero had lost, they began a riot which - according to some reports - almost resulted in the entire arena being set ablaze (which would have brought a new meaning to the phrase "drawing heat").

Luckily, event security eventually managed to restore some order and nobody was seriously hurt. The only long-term side effect was that NJPW was banned from hosting shows at Tokyo's Sumo Hall; a sanction that lasted for at least two years.
