10 Anti-AEW Moves WWE Made Out Of Spite

Despite AEW not holding its first show, Double Or Nothing, until the following month, Triple H took the first notable televised potshot at the Tony Khan-helmed group in April 2019, doing so during D-Generation X's WWE Hall Of Fame induction.

It was an eventful night in Brooklyn, lowlighted, unfortunately, by the ugly, shameful assault on Bret Hart perpetrated by a fan during The Hart Foundation's induction. Later, 'The Game' took aim at the promotion that would eventually obliterate his NXT brand in the Wednesday Night Wars.

DX member and AEW coach Billy Gunn (hired by Khan and co. that January) made a joke about Vince McMahon no longer being able to fire him. Triple H responded:-

"Billy, let's be honest. He will buy that pissant company just to fire you again."

The adjective has stuck with fans ever since. A harmless spot of d*ck-swinging bravado from Triple H at the time became ammunition against him once the tides of war started drifting the opposite way.
